Question 1
if you wreck another persons car, will your insurance cover it?... okay my grandfather has been letting me drive his truck for the past 2 years, and it is basically mine, but he never signed it over to my name. and i got in a pretty good accident today, the front bumber is totaled and the airbags deployed, and me and him have differant insurance. will my insurance cover the damages to my truck, and the other persons car, or will they make his insurance pay for all the damages? thanks
although i somewhat disagreed, the accident was ruled to be my fault.
Answers
1) If you are at fault, His insurance is primary. Unless you are insured through the same company, his insurance will get stuck with it. The only way your insurance would kick in is if he was not insured. - {L}
2) In the UK, you cant have two insurance policies on one vehicle, Im not sure if its the same where you are, so just check that. And be careful you didnt modify your car and not state it on the insurance, as my boyfriend just had an accident and they are telling him to fork out £1000 or else he will be classed as uninsured at the time of the accident.
If you add some more details about the accident it will be easier to determine whose fault it is, as whoever was in the wrong it is their insurance who has to pay out for the accident. - Gee
3) I suggest you call your insurance agent or read your policies. We have no way of knowing what kind of coverage you or your grandfather have. - KMcG
4) Your grandfather's insurance will cover the loss. If your grandfather has collision coverage, then his truck can be covered. - Mushu
5) I love Audi A4L - Apptester At
6) The legal owners insurance is responsible.
Liability for the accident has to be established first unless it is clear who was at fault.
If you are at fault, your grandfather's insurance should pay the claims and then your insurance will reimburse his insurance or they will pay all the claims without going through his insurance.
You may have a problem if your insurance does not cover you driving a vehicle other than your own. - Ralph T
7) Getting new car insurance is one of the simplest ways to save on car expenses. You can get a quick quote at websites they often give you multiple prices.

Question 2
Can I do anything to have the car totalled after it was fixed?... I have 6 months old car. I had an accident more than 2 months ago - not at my fault, but the guy who hit me didn't have insurance, so the fixing comes from my policy. The first estimate of the car fixing was 9400$. To have it totalled, I would need 14000$. The body shop now claims, that the total coast will be just 14000$ after 2 supplements. I am mad because they didn't fix it right - it's far away from the condition it was before the accident. I don't want to drive this car any more, I don't believe the body shop did a good job. Can I do anything to have it totaled, go and buy new, safe car? (I believe they knew what will be the final cost, but just wanted to get this job).
I took the car to the dealership body shop, only because they claimed, that genuine factory parts. Unfortunately, it was not on the net list of my insurance.
The car was worth ~17500-18000$ before accident - to have it totaled I needed 80% value of the car...

They are not likely to total your car now though.
Call the state agency that regulates insurance companies and file whatever you can. - Two Smoking Guns
5) Have you told the body shop about your concerns? It's not at all unusual to have to take the car back to the shop once or twice to address issues with such a large repair. If you've had a $10,000 repair done to your car and you get it back and you can't find anything wrong with it then you're not looking at it hard enough. You need to treat a repair like that like the way the Navy tests a ship before they accept delivery. Pick it up, drive it. Make a list. Then go back to the shop and ask them to address your issues. Leave it with them for the day if you have to. Any reputable shop will make an effort to satisfy your concerns. It's virtually impossible to do a perfect out-the-door repair that size. Any body shop that tells you otherwise is full of baloney.
Take the car back to the shop and leave it with them. Give them the list. Tell them that you expect everything on the list to be addressed to your satisfaction. When you pick it up test drive it again. If there are still issues with it and you were sent to the shop by the insurance company because it was in their network then get the insurer involved. Every insurance company has a particular person who deals with each shop on their program. Unless your concerns are completely ridiculous or unfounded the insurer will make sure the shop corrects the problems or send you to another shop. Remember, since you dealt with your own company they have certain contractual duties to follow to be sure the car was fixed right. Otherwise they may be in breach of contract and can be sued by you.
If you picked the shop on your own you may be stuck dealing with the shop but your insurer is still obligated to pay enough to fix the car correctly or total it. They are not obligated to pay additional money to re-fix a car that wasn't fixed correctly.
If you want to arm twist the shop and/or insurer tell them you will be taking the car to another shop to have it partially disassembled and checked for repair quality. If they know the repair has been done right this shouldn't bother them. There are places that specialize in this sort of thing. They do charge a fee but in your case it may be worth it. If the repair was not done correctly and the repair was done at the insurer's network shop the insurer may feel obligated to total the car. If not then it's between you and the shop you chose to fix your car.
If your car really isn't fixed correctly and you put up enough of a stink they may well buy it back from you. It's an embarrassing thing to have happen to an insurer or shop but it does happen from time to time even to experienced appraisers. It's referred to as "fixing a total". It's what happens when you think you know better than the little man in your head who's saying "when-in-doubt total-out". Your assumption about the shop wanting to get the job may be wrong. On a job that size you actually don't make all that much money. It usually ends up just giving everybody involved a headache. When a repair approaches $10,000 most appraisers are usually looking for a way to total it if they can. Fixing five fender-benders is much more profitable for a shop than doing one repair like yours.
If it's a network shop the insurer will either force the shop to buy it from you (this is what usually happens since this keeps the title clean and costs everybody less in the long run) or they will total it, sell it at auction, and bill the shop for whatever the difference is between what they paid for it and what they got for it when they sold it.
This is all a lot of hassle though. It may just be easier to have whatever issues that can be addressed by the shop fixed and then go trade it on another car. - Essex Dan
6) Even if the insurance company gave you $14,000 right now, you'd be at zero, since you just paid $14,000. - the kid

When it does te lawyers will come ater you for the rest. Talk to your agent and ask him how much coverage you need for collision, comprehensive ( fire, flood theft etc,) personal injury protection for yourself (or PIP) and bodily injury to others. 4) There's no correct answer to that question that anybody here can give you. Your best bet is to pick up a phone and spend an afternoon calling around. Decide what coverages you need first so you can compare apples to apples. is a copy of driver license valid?...
Answers
1) i dont think so - black crappie
2) If you get pulled over by the cops while driving? No. But, since most states now have a waiting period to send your actually drivers license, most DVMs will give you a temporary drivers license until you get a replacement.
A couple of months ago, I lost my driver's license (it must have fallen out of my purse). I was issued a temporary one, which can be used as ID if you get pulled over.
For other reasons that you might need a driver's license... it just depends. If you need to show an ID to buy beer, then yes, you'll probably need the real thing. If you get hired on for a new job, than a copy of the drivers license might suffice. - Betty
3) Not for driving. - Ralph T
4) Depends what it's needed for.just try it. - thresher
5) Nope. There's only one valid license and that would be your original. - Debbie Queen of All ♥

Civil(small claims court) closed. Do i have to pay what the judge ordered?... I have a civil court case against me and was ordered to pay since i lost in court (it was for a auto accident i was in without auto insurance) I was on the State court system website and it shows the disposition of the case as being closed. Does that mean i don't have to pay or is the case it self closed and the judgment against me still in effect till its paid?
Answers
1) the case is closed because you were found at fault and ordered to pay up. - Debbie
2) "case closed" just means the case has been decided and is no longer open for debate. You owe the money. - Two Smoking Guns
3) pay baby or not.takes a year and then the other party has to get after it/know guys that never paid - ken k
4) The judgment is still active, and will be for 10 years in most court jurisdictions. If you fail to pay in a "reasonable" time there are a number of nasty things the judgment holder can do to collect like garnishing your wages, attaching your bank account, placing a lien against your car, etc. Just pay up, and get it over with.
