In May i re registered my car , i recentaly purchased a new car?

Question 1
In May i re registered my car , i recentaly purchased a new car?...  how much does it cost to transer the registration over , since i already paid this year

Answers
1)   It depends upon the state in which you live. Most states either keep the plate (and registration) with the car (like Washington), or, when the car is sold, the plate (and registration) are void (like Colorado).

Go here to find out the laws for your specific state:

2)   So do you want someone to list the cost for every state in the union or are you going to make a simple phone call in the morning? - stinky mcgee

3)   It is generally cheaper to transfer an existing registration than it is to get a new plate and registration. You can use the equity you have left in the registration you just renewed. Some states base their registration fees on vehicle weight, so you may incur additional fees if your new car is in a higher weight class than your old one.

Every state is different. Without knowing what state you are in and what kind of car you are transferring from and what you are transferring to, I can't be more specific. - Little Wing

Question 2
IL no insurance law in a car accident?...  my boyfriend, me and his friend were in a car accident last wednessday and we got the fault for it for failure to yeild at a left turn, it totalled both cars and the other lady has insurance,no one was took to the hospital, my boyfriend is 18 and has his license... his mom pays for the car insurance and she did not pay for this months and never told us, we were wondering if he could go to jail for this?

We also have some other few questions about all this.

1.does anyone know what the fine would be for failure to yeil at a left turn or what they will say?

2. does anyone know what the judge is gonna say about no insurance and how long he would face jail time if he does or how big the fine will be and how long his liscense could be gone.

THank you very much.

any questions feel free to ask.

Answers
1)   There will be a fine, don't know how much. That is determined by the laws in your state.

There will not be jail time.

I think you are worrying about the wrong thing, though. Since your boyfriend was driving an uninsured vehicle, he and his mother are now personally responsible for ALL the damages, medical bills, rental cars, etc that are associated with this loss. They MUST pay the other drivers insurance company for everything. If they try to dodge this, there will be serious monetary and other consequences. - Mushu

2)   Proof of Insurance and Financial Responsibility

Unlike some states, Ohio doesn't have a means of automatically knowing you if you're covered by an insurance policy. So, when required, you'll need to provide proof of your insurance coverage or other financial responsibility coverage by showing one of the following:

* Current insurance identification card or policy.

* Surety bond certificate issued by an authorized surety company.

* BMV bond certificate.

* BMV certificate indicating you have at least $30,000 deposited with the state.

* BMV Certificate of self-insurance.

* BMV Form 2702 or 2083 (for DUI first offenders).

* Completed Section A of the state crash report.

Penalties for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility

So, what happens if you have no proof of insurance when requested to show it by a law enforcement officer?

In most cases, the officer will give you a written notice. You'll then have to provide proof of your financial responsibility by either:

* Showing your proof in traffic court.

* Sending a copy of your proof to the address listed on the notice.

The BMV also randomly selects drivers to show their proof of insurance by sending a letter to them, and asking for this information. Just follow the instructions given in the letter to comply with the request.

Failing to show your proof of insurance in a timely manner means your license and vehicle registration will begin the suspension process. If you're a first-time offender, you will lose your driving privileges for 90 days. If you're a repeat offender, the suspension ranges from one to two years. - roadawg

Question 4
Car Insurance for this Car?...  Im 17 yrs old/male/student.... I'm planning to buy a 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS and i would like to know how much would be insurance for it? Not going to full coverage just liability.....

Thanks.... I live in Kansas City....

Answers
1)   It depends upon factors like, is the policy in your name, or in your parents' name? Do you get good grades? Do you have any tickets/accidents?

I would guess that for a 17yo male, for liability on an Avalon, on your parents' policy with good grades, your payment would be something like $125/mo.

Just call an agent (or your parents' agent if you're using their policy) and ask. - This Guys Sez

Answers
1)   When you buy a car, you have to do three things:

1. Title transfer (and if you're under 18, the title will need to be in your parent or guardian's name)

2. Insurance

3. Registration

I think you have to title and register the car immediately. I don't think you need to insure it unless you're driving it.
