Question 1
What states issue a driver's license if yours is suspended in another state?...  I've started a pretty lucrative online business and it's taken off a lot more quickly than I thought. I'm thinking of relocating to another state because I'm tired of this place! Anyway, my license is suspended for an unpaid ticket (failure to come to a complete stop when making a right on red)I had back in 1997. I've tried hiring a lawyer, pleading out, anything to avoid my license being suspended for a freakin' year. Nothing has helped and as of September 2nd, my license is bye bye. My question is, which states issue a driver's license even though yours may be suspended in another state? A little help?
...damn...looks like I either have to take the bus or hire a freakin' driver.

2)   Nope. Suspended in one state is suspended in all states... Of course, if you're making tons of money and want to move somewhere better, you could always move to another country. - JetDoc

3)   If that ticket is listed as an outstanding warrant you won't find one, States share warrant information. If its just listed as a moving violation you might be able to sneak through in any other State, but the minute your name comes out as having outstanding tickets the State is likely to revoke your licence. You have a situation where it probably would have been easier just negotiating off the fines for having unpaid fines and paying the original ticket. - Mark G

4)   It is unlawful to drive with a suspended license, even if you have a license that is not suspended. An additional license will not help you.



For example, Missouri's law reads: "A person commits the crime of driving while revoked if such person operates a motor vehicle on a highway when such person's license or driving privilege has been canceled, suspended, or revoked under the laws of this state or any other state and acts with criminal negligence with respect to knowledge of the fact that such person's driving privilege has been canceled, suspended, or revoked."



Missouri law reads: "a person is guilty of a misdemeanor if:



(1) the person's driver's license or driving privilege has been suspended;



(2) the person has been given notice of or reasonably should know of the suspension; and



(3) the person disobeys the order by operating in this state any motor vehicle, the operation of which requires a driver's license, while the person's license or privilege is suspended."



That you have another license that is not suspended is not a defense in any State that I know of. - JoelKatz

The prior answers have given you BAD information.



California does not simply suspend your license for years for an unpaid ticket you simply didn't pay and now have taken care of. An attorney knowledgeable in DMV law should be able to get this taken care of for you. It may be as simple as getting a termination of license, but I would have to do some research with DMV in order to tell you for sure what needs to be done to get you out of this mess.



Most attorneys NEVER deal with DMV issues, so it's important to hire someone who is experienced with DMV suspensions, Neg Ops, and Admin Per Se hearings.



Further, there are some states that won't pick up the fact your license is suspended in California, however, the government is working on fixing these loop holes and it will eventually catch up with you.

Question 2
My employer said " Valid texas license" for the job. Is it ok If i have another states ID?...  I just had a phone interview with a company that moves stuff from burned down houses and commercial places.

They will give me a vehicle to drive. It pays $500 per week . Anyway, the lady asked me to come in and see the place on monday. The ad said " have valid texas license". I have a valid NY license. Is that a big problem?

1)   Since the ad is looking for those with a valid TEXAS license, having a valid New York license means you aren't qualified to be hired for the job. - oklatom

Question 3
if I file for a lost title does that override the old one, which was stolen and so was the truck?...

1)   No, and that really isn't meaningful. All a title does is prove that a particular person owned a particular car on a particular date. It also provides a convenient form for applying to transfer title. The information on the lost title is still true and correct, and the document is still proof of that. - JoelKatz

2)   It's not at all common for a truck to be stolen WITH the title. It's much more common, for someone to sell a truck, turn over the title, and change their mind.



No, the new title doesn't override the old one. If someone tried to retitle the truck in their name, and you file a duplicate title request, there's going to be an issue with the DMV. If not, your new title will clearly be stamped "duplicate", and if there's an ownership dispute, as long as the old title was properly notarized, that one is the one that "counts" until you get a judge to say otherwise.



If they did NOT retitle the truck, and the car is still stolen, I'm not sure what the POINT of a duplicate title is, unless you're trying to sign it over to the insurance company for a claim. - mbrcatz

3)   I can only speak for my state, which is NJ. In NJ, assuming the truck is still on record at the DMV as being in your name, applying for a duplicate title very definitely overrides the old one.



If the truck was reported stolen, NJDMV would have it in their system. If anyone presented a title that comes up as stolen, they wouldn't be able to process the transaction. To get a title in this particular instance you'd have to provide a police report along with the title application. - Little Wing

Do i still have coverage for my car?...  Ok im 17 i have american family insurance and i just got my first car its the weekend here and they are closed so we can get insurance for the car yet but i heard somewhere that they had a 30 day policy when you buy a vehicle or something.
I live in missouri if that is needed.

1)   I would wait until you can properly insure it. It's the law ya know. I never heard of a 30 day policy. I think your being mislead by some rumors on that. - The Eagle Keeper

2)   If you own a car, and have it insured, and trade that car in for a new one, at one time that new car was insured until you could notify your agent of the trade in of the old one and the purchase of the new one, but not longer than 30 days. With the advent of cell phones and the internet with instant communication, that has pretty much gone away, but would not apply to you anyway being your first car. - oklatom

3)   You are misunderstanding.



That 30 days, is if you REPLACE a car. But when you buy a NEW one, there is NO grace period. You are not covered.



Additionally, if the new car is in YOUR name, and the policy is in a PARENT'S name, you cannot add it to their policy. The name on the title, tags, and insurance all must match. - mbrcatz

Who's insurance does a speeding ticket go under?...  My friend was driving my car when we were pulled over for speeding. The officer gave us a speeding ticket. I gave him my insurance, but he asked for my friend's (driver) ID. Who gets busted on their insurance?
